What Should The Wedding Party Pay For?

What Should The Wedding Party Pay For?

The wedding party is there to support you on your big day, and you’re happy to have them! Even so, it can be difficult to talk about money and what might be expected of your party. Every wedding is different, so we’re breaking down the three biggest expenses that the wedding party is expected to pay for:

Wedding Day Attire. Bridesmaids and groomsmen are usually expected to pay for their own dresses, tuxedos, shoes, accessories and so on. Some couples decide what their wedding party will wear, and others give more room to decide on style and price. And after the wedding day is over, they get to keep their outfit, so it isn’t unusual to expect that they cover these costs.

Bridal Shower. Typically, a bride’s family member or close friend is excited to host a bridal shower. Other times, bridesmaids choose to host a shower themselves, which can minimize costs and work for the group. Bridal showers can be fancy and elaborate, or minimal and cozy – whatever the bride wants!

Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties. Weddings are a time of fun and celebration, and a good bachelor/bachelorette party is no exception! Bridesmaids and groomsmen are usually expected to share the expenses of the party, and make sure that the bride and groom are covered as well. Whether you’re planning a getaway or a relaxed night at home, expected expenses include food, drinks, decorations, entertainment and transportation.

Travel and Lodging. If the wedding party doesn’t live where the wedding is being held, it is expected that the party members pay their own way to get to the wedding. This also applies to showers and parties before – if there is travel involved, they should usually cover it.

It may seem like being in a wedding is an expensive venture, and it can be. However, there are some things that the wedding party shouldn’t be expected to pay for, including flowers, hair and makeup, and transportation on the wedding day. When it comes down to the reception, your wedding party should enjoy the food, drinks and entertainment like the other guests. Of course, they are still there to help you, but don’t forget to add them to the head-count when planning food and seating.

Your wedding party wants to make your big day as special as you do. Make sure to let your best friends know what you want ahead of time, and they’ll do their best to make it the happiest day of your life!
