How To Write Your “Save The Date”

“Save the Date” cards are a great way to get the word out to your friends and family! “Save The Date” cards are not always necessary, but for a wedding planned well in advance, this ensures that your guests have enough notice to plan on attending your wedding. These can also double as engagement announcements for those who love a formal announcement.

So how do you write a “Save The Date?”

In general, your “Save the Date” should be simple – include your names, the date and the location of your wedding. You can be as casual or as formal as you want to. The most important thing is to get the date out there so that your loved ones can make sure they’re present. Guests don’t need to RSVP or respond to a “Save The Date,” so there is much less to stress about.

Pick a creative yet simple design. These cards can be a lot less formal than the actual invitations, and can follow the style of your wedding or not. Some couples like to include a picture from their engagement session or one of their favorites from when they were dating.

“Save The Date” cards can be made and sent digitally. If sending any digital announcements or invitations, make sure you have the most up-to-date contact information for your guests so that no one is left out.

I’ve got the cards, now who do I send them to?

Send your “Save The Date” cards to everyone you plan on inviting to the wedding. It’s also good to send these to your wedding party and close family; even though you know they’ll attend, it’s good for them to have a reminder to keep that date wide open for you and your big day.

Send these out about 6 months before the wedding date. If you’re planning a destination wedding or a wedding that overlaps on another holiday, send them out about 8 months before the wedding.

If it’s a short engagement, it might not be necessary to send any “Save The Date” cards. Instead, send out your invitations as soon as you can.

The most important thing is to share your exciting day with others. Make sure your loved ones can be at your wedding – send them a “Save The Date!”
