How To Write The Perfect Wedding Toast

Giving a wedding toast can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be! An ideal wedding toast should only be a few minutes long at most, so coming up with something short yet sentimental is easier than you think. We’ve broken down writing a wedding toast into 5 easy steps:

  1. Start with a solid introduction. Even if you know everyone at the wedding, it’s always good to introduce yourself and how you know the couple. Keep your personal details short and sweet.

  2. Share your congratulations. By the end of the wedding, it might feel overdone, but saying “congratulations” is the basis of a wedding toast. Make sure to congratulate them, and maybe throw in some compliments about the bride’s dress or groom’s hair.

  3. Tell a good story. If you have a fond memory with the bride and/or groom, sharing it can be sentimental and thoughtful. Telling a short story about the couple can be entertaining, but avoid “inside stories” or jokes that only you will get. This keeps the other guests engaged and won’t make them feel left out.

  4. Wish the newlyweds well. Sharing your hopes and well-wishes with the couple is key. Even if it sounds cheesy, wishing them “a lifetime of happiness” is an honest sentiment, and it keeps your toast upbeat.

  5. Finish with a call to action. “Raise a glass to the newlyweds!” Your toast is over and the room is cheering – congrats!

No matter what you choose to share, keep it positive and full of love. Your friends will love it if it comes from the heart!
